Governor Profiles
Find out a little bit of information about our Governors:
Revd Ann Pollard – co-opted Governor – Chair of Governors
I have been a Governor at the school since 2010, taking on the roll of Vice Chair before becoming Chair of Governors in 2014.
I currently have Governor responsibility for Looked After Children; SMSC (spiritual, moral, social and cultural development) and EYFS (early years foundation stage) and a Reading Friend.. It is my privilege to be part of this school and to be working alongside the dedicated and hard-working staff and governors that we have at Earlsheaton.
I am passionate that children are at the centre of our decision-making and also proud to be associated with a school that aspires to provide the very best that education can offer and which encourages and enables our children to grow, learn and achieve their full potential to be valuable and valued members of our society.
Mrs Becki Beaumont- co-opted Governor - Vice Chair of Governors
I became one of the school's co-opted Governors in December 2015. I'm currently Vice Chair of the Governing Body and Chair of the Resources sub-committee. I also have responsibility for monitoring Pupil Premium spending. I am Chair of Governors at two other Kirklees schools and I work for the Local Authority. I believe a good education is a right for all.
Mrs Wendy Kelly - Head Teacher - ex officio Governor
I have been Head Teacher here since January 2013 and as part of my duties attend each Governors meeting (which is what ex officio means). I write a report for Governors each half term about our school- what the children are learning, what progress they are making, what training staff have done, how we are using our budget and if any special events have taken place. The Governors can then ask questions to find out additional information. I find it very useful that Governors can bring their personal experience to support the school, as those who don't work in education can help us see things differently and suggest things we hadn't thought of.
I live locally and am mum to 2 teenage boys. I love my animals and am owned by 4 cats, 1 chicken and a dog called Piper, who enjoys coming to school to be patted by the children.

Mrs Nicola Hirst- Parent Governor
I have two daughters in Earlsheaton one in West and the second in North. I have been a Governor since November 2016. As a parent in school I already attend as many activities as I can. One of my Governor highlights last year was a Literacy visit when I met with Mrs Grant. I had spoken to a few parents who had been discussing how reading and phonics were taught in school and Mrs Grant took me through the schools’ rigorous approach to phonics and reading and interventions. I was blown away by the attention to detail and how well trained all school staff are. It was no surprise when the school received such brilliant results in the Year One phonic test! As Governors we want to show that we represent parents and highlight in a very transparent way the Outstanding work that the school is doing. Please do get in contact if you’d like us to raise a particular topic at a meeting.
Mr James Denison- Parent Governor
I am a father of two children: Lily, 4 and Tommy, 1. Lily has started her education at Earlsheaton Infants this year. I work as an Operations Manager for a Social Care charity that delivers support to people with Learning Disabilities. My role sees me managing the Lancashire region, responsible for the support provided to approx. 60 individuals in over 20 different settings, through a dedicated team of approx. 140 managers, administrators and support workers.
My father has spent much of the last two decades supporting schools through their governing bodies, as both a parent governor and chair of governors in a number of schools throughout Kirklees & Bradford and I have seen the positive difference he has made to the schools he has supported, this has driven me to support our school on its continuing journey to deliver an outstanding education to our children.

Ms Amy Smith- Co-opted Governor
I became one of the School’s Co-Opted Governors in October 2018. My twin daughters started at Earlsheaton in Reception this year and are loving every minute. As an ambassador for education, and with 10 years of my career spent in the higher education sector, I am passionate that children are given the best possible introduction to learning throughout their early years. I am very much looking forward to working with the School’s excellent staff, along with the rest of the Board of Governors, to help grow each and every pupil as they embark on their first exciting journey.
