Spelling for Years One and Two
Spelling is a key skill that all children need to learn, to help them become fluent, confident and successful writers. At Earlsheaton Infants School we teach a daily phonics lesson to support children with this. However, there are many spelling rules and tricky words that children need to learn off by heart, as phonic strategies won't help them spell some words correctly.
We have a programme of weekly spellings for Year One and Two children that will help them this. We expect parents to help children learn them, as part of their homework. Spellings are tested at the end of the week and although we don't expect children to get them all right every week, they should be getting at least 8 or 9 correct. On this page are are the spelling lists for each half term, for each class. There are also some handy guides for parents about helping your child with spelling. If you would like any further support then please speak to your child's class teacher.
